Time of Nothing”、 Olaf Breuningの初期の写真を集めたセルフタイトル本、それと僕の“Deeper Than Night”という3冊です。

Houseboat Press、New Documents、Pau Wau Publications

– Please introduce your publisher.

My press is called Silent Sound it was created in late 2014 right after I moved to Los Angeles from New York. As a photographer myself, making photobooks has become integral to my creative process. When I arrived in Los Angeles it was a turning point in my life to create something new, and I decided to start producing my own photo books, initially with my own work, and later with other artist who’s work I strongly connect with.

– Why do you participate in Art Book Fairs?

Now with Silent Sound I have participated in the New York and Los Angeles art book fairs several times, as well as the art book fair in Vancouver Canada – but it was really exciting to be able to expand to the SF art book fair this year, as the city is still really foreign to me but there are so many incredibly talented people in that area, I’m really excited to start connecting with them and hope to come back next year as well.

– What is your newest titles?

In the fall I released three new hardcover books, which were likely my most ambitious book projects so far. These included Jim Mangan’s Time of Nothing, Olaf Breuning’s self titled book of his earlier photographs, and my latest series called Deeper Than Night . Jim Mangan’s book Time of Nothing is a collection of surreal aerial photographs taken from the window of a small plane flying above the great salt lake in Utah. It’s a powerful look at nature’s raw beauty as well as mankind’s effect left on the land we inhabit. In Olaf Breuning’s book, we go back into archives of his early photographic works from the late 90’s to mid 2000’s, mostly focusing on his “groups” of various fictitious characters from some kind of darker, alternate universe. Lastly, the latest book of my own work, Deeper Than Night.

– Tables you like at SF Art Book Fair 2017 ?

Houseboat Press, New Documents, Pau Wau Publications

– Did you get any zines/books at SFABF17?

Eric Ruby’s Kamper Sweet Kamper by Houseboat Press really blew me away. It’s this large scale, gorgeous photo book under the guise of being an 18 month calendar. It’s indeed a calendar, in a way, but it’s one of the most exciting books I’ve seen in a while. All the images are full bleed, double page spreads and it’s simply put together with spiral binding, so it lays flat into one large image. Eric Ruby’s images
document the ins and outs of life in his incredibly charming home, an old camper trailer (Kamper Sweet Kamper) parked in rural land outside of San Francisco.

– What is your next plan?

Next I’ll be participating at the NY Art Book Fair at PS1 this fall, and hopefully in Tokyo after that!
